John Barelli's art crime memoir shares the highlights of his thirty-eight-year career in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Security Department. Recounting the thefts of specific museum treasures, from an ancient Egyptian gold ring to a Willie Mays baseball card, Barelli reveals the who, how, and why of each crime and investigation/recovery effort. Even the details of his everyday duties are fascinating and sometimes surprising (I never considered the problem of people illicitly adding to the Met's collection, for example). Exhilarating stuff!
