Marissa Piesman's Nina Fischman mysteries are hilarious without any strained attempts at cuteness. In Personal Effects, Nina bickers with her nosy Jewish mother, laments her thighs, wishes for a boyfriend...and solves crimes. There isn't enough steamy sex to mark this as a genuinely guilty pleasure, but on a rainy night, after a lousy day, I can't think of anything I would rather curl up with to beat back the blues.
