Despite its setting in a terminal ward at a Glasgow hospital, this tender novel manages to be one of the most charming and uplifting celebrations of being alive that I've read. Lenni is seventeen and Margot is eighty-three, and when these two delightfully rebellious women meet in an art class at the hospital where they're both nearing death, a resplendent friendship is born. They embark upon a project to commemorate the 100 years of life between them in paintings and stories…and the results are exhilarating, funny, heartbreaking, and beautiful. Keep tissues nearby!
