Jim Thorpe was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation, and while enduring lessons in racist assimilation at the Carlisle Indian School, he was named an All-American football player. Thorpe went on to win two gold medals in the 1912 Olympics and played major league baseball for the New York Giants. This American hero's life included incredible highs and heartbreaking lows, including failed marriages, financial distress, and the revoking of his medals. David Maraniss's highly lauded biography was a New York Times bestseller.
