In 2007, poet Frieda Hughes (daughter of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath) found an injured baby magpie at her house in Wales and she was smitten. The bird, whom she named George, became the center of her attention—and a constant source of love—as she nursed him back to health. George's amusing antics, ever-developing "bird personality," and charged relationship with Frieda's three dogs (and her ex-husband!) will warm the hearts of nature lovers and all who value the comfort of "home."
