To escape from a traveling burlesque show, Irene, Millie, and Henry take a leap of faith…right off the back of a moving train. They pool their few dollars and head for Hollywood, home of the "flickers" that have taken Prohibition-era America by storm. 1920s Los Angeles is decadent, seedy, violent, and beautiful, and the trio are soon jockeying for jobs alongside countless others dreaming of becoming the next Mary Pickford or Rudolph Valentino. But Irene, Millie, and Henry know something the other hopefuls don't: In Hollywood, the only thing more important than good looks, talent, and luck is friendship.
