Despite its subject, Dead Presidents is a fun book. Brady Carlson takes his subject seriously, visiting the memorials, libraries, etc. of almost every (dead) president. He divides the book into themes, making some interesting connections between presidents we wouldn't necessarily guess have anything in common. Though he draws some serious conclusions worth thinking about, he also has some lines that made me laugh out loud. Most important, he brings the history to life (again, despite the subject) and reminds us that our history as a nation is always shifting and changing, particularly in how we view our presidents. Anyone who loves American history will love this book!
