To test out their compatibility as traveling companions, retired headmistress Maggie Detweiler and her socialite friend Hope Babbin book a five-day cooking-class retreat at a resort in rural Maine (where they can also check in on Hope's long-estranged son, who is the local deputy sheriff). But the ladies' days of leisure are interrupted by the arrival of a Hollywood starlet and her obnoxiously entitled entourage…one of whom winds up dead after a suspicious fire. Deputy Babbin could use some help with the case, and the two friends—armed with a wealth of life experience and insatiable curiousity—are determined to help him solve it. With a fast-paced plot, compelling characters, and lots of witty dialogue, Death at Breakfast is the kind of cozy mystery that will delight even those who don't consider themselves fans of whodunits.
