Some say that remembering requires paper, and in The Light of Days, Judy Batalion uses her pages well. She unveils the stories of a group of Jewish women in Poland who resisted the Nazis during WWII. They served as couriers and caretakers, devised strategic plans, and became fighters. Batalion bears witness to the astonishing bravery of these young women who sacrificed everything to fight for the freedom of others despite unspeakable brutality. This is an important read, although at times a hard one. Batalion does not shy away from the darkest details, but she never ceases to portray these women with strength and compassion, and her well-researched storytelling will forge an unforgettable connection between readers and these courageous young women.
