In the early 1980s, Michael Korda—editor in chief at a major publishing house, best-selling author, and Manhattan sophisticate— and his elegant, former-fashion-model wife ventured out of the city to buy property in upstate New York. Many of their new neighbors, who had originally been wary of the citified couple, became true friends as they watched the Korda place transform from a run-down mess to a working farm. Korda has a real knack for capturing a character on paper: you'll feel you know his diamond-in-the-rough neighbors as well as he does.
