I was blown away by Valérie Perrin's Fresh Water for Flowers, so I had very high expectations for Three. I'm happy to report that this latest novel, though quite different in subject matter, did not disappoint! Childhood best friends Nina, Adrian, and Etienne remain inseparable as they grow up, vowing to move to Paris together upon graduation and never look back. Nearly thirty years later, a car with a body inside is pulled from the bottom of the lake in their hometown. The three, who haven't spoken in years, find themselves back in each other's lives, struggling to reconcile what happened all those years ago with the people they have become over the decades. It's a rich, full story about connection, grief, desire, and the very nature of identity. (AG)
