Metropolitan Pictures is planning a Sherlock Holmes film, but inadvertently scandalizes the Baker Street Irregulars (a prominent group of die-hard Sherlock fans) by enlisting a screenwriter who evinces contempt for Conan Doyle and his works. Hoping to appease them, a studio publicist invites several members of the fandom to LA as consultants. But tensions escalate, and when the screenwriter is found dead, the Baker Street Irregulars must work together to uncover the killer. Boucher's rapid-fire dialogue, reminiscent of a screwball comedy, keeps the story humming, and the numerous allusions to the Holmes canon will delight longtime fans.
