Affluent entrepreneur Alix is appalled when her babysitter Emira, a young Black woman, is accused of kidnapping Alix's (white) daughter in a local market. To make things right, Alix resolves to take the aimless twenty-five-year-old under her wing. But her mentoring plans are disastrously upended when the boyfriend Emira brings to Thanksgiving dinner is someone from Alix's past.
