Little Embers, a remote country house on an island off the coast of England, provides the backdrop for this absorbing novel that seamlessly slips between the present and the past. Two women will find sanctuary at this seaside island home for very different reasons, some sixty years apart. But despite the long intervening years, their paths will cross and show us that the choices we make in the past influence but do not define our future. This novel navigates complex issues such as forbidden relationships, women's place in society, and mental health, while deftly weaving a tale filled with compassion and believable characters.
