First, I'd like to say the reason for the 4 stars is due to my own personal misconception about the book and therefore deserves 5 stars otherwise. When purchasing this book I thought it was mostly informative reference with a few writing exercises mixed in however it turns out I had it backwards and so I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more reference. Even so, I find this book equally helpful just in a different sense then I originally intended. This book requires me to go step by step through the writing process to fully develop my novel idea. It's less "how-to" and more "do" and thus provides more motivation and specific guidance. Overall, this is a great walkthrough guide for dabblers or beginner novelists!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
