Meet Oscar, one of six resident cats at Steere House nursing home in Rhode Island. Oscar is an ordinary cat except for one thing: He knows when a patient is approaching death. Hours before the end, Oscar curls up next to the patient and stays with him/her to the end. With Oscar as his guide, Dr. Dosa introduces us to his geriatric patients. Through their case histories, Dr. Dosa explores the progression of degeneration and the process of dying. All of this is done in a loving, gentle, and positive way that will resonate with families and caretakers of the elderly. Cat-lovers will find Oscar as interesting and likable as the patients to whom he brought comfort and solace.
