Hanna Günzburger's family fled Germany in 1938, when Hitler declared war on the Jews. As a refugee in France, Hanna met and fell in love with a dashing young Catholic named Roland, only to be separated from him after the Nazis invaded. But fifty years later, when her daughter Leslie travels to Europe to explore her family's history, she sets in motion a chain of events that could reunite the lovers once again.
