There's only one crossword that counts (at least for some of us!), and it's published daily in the New York Times. At our house, we just refer to it as "the puzzle": my husband and I work the weekend puzzles together; I do the dailies alone. Monday crosswords are easy, but the going gets tougher through the week; Saturday's can be brutal. Sunday's are long but pleasant, and usually have a sort of trick or treat. It's an addiction, of sorts, but one that's good for you: they tell us crosswords help keep our minds sharp as we age. So, the more, the better. Now, here comes Will Shortz with a whole year's worth of Monday-through-Sundays. Grab a sharp pencil and off you go. (If you do the puzzle in ink—especially the Saturday—you're out of my league!)
