Ray Bradbury must be the living incarnation of imagination. He spins a spellbinding tale on a fantastic idea, and the reader follows along breathlessly. Bradbury himself chose these 100 stories from the tremendous output of his seven decades of writing fiction; some of these short pieces have been out of print for years! The Bradbury standards are there: "The Kilimanjaro Device," "The Illustrated Man," and my personal favorite, "The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl." But I came late in life to "Any Friend of Nicholas Nickleby's Is a Friend of Mine," and am glad not to have missed its sense of wonder. Fans of Bradbury will undoubtedly enjoy this smorgasbord of his short fiction, but Bradbury Stories makes a great gift, too, for teenage readers: the excitement is there, without shocking language or blatant sexual content.
