Bas Bleu is proud to offer fourteen novels published by Felony & Mayhem, specialists in saving classic, plot-driven mysteries from extinction! Publisher Maggie Topkis has selected these titles especially for Bas Bleu's readers. She's written most of the reviews on these four pages. Marissa Piesman's "Nina Fischman" mystery series is like the perfect grilled-cheese sandwich. If you're in the right mood, there isn't a lot that can beat the simple, undeniable deliciousness of melted cheese. There's definitely a comfort-food quality to Piesman's fiction—this is not haute cuisine. Nina bickers with her nosy Jewish mother, laments her thighs, wishes for a boyfriend…and solves crimes. The books are funny, funny, funny, without any of the strained attempts at cuteness that mar so many "cozy" mysteries. There isn't enough steamy sex to mark them as genuinely guilty pleasures, but on a rainy night, after a lousy day, I can't think of anything I would rather curl up with to beat back the blues.
