Even though he's one-half of one of English literature's most famous couples, little is known about Fitzwilliam Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet's proud suitor in Pride and Prejudice. Now Darcy fans can take a deeper look at the enigmatic man, courtesy of Pamela Aidan's three-volume series chronicling the famous love story from Mr. Darcy's point of view. An Assembly Such as This details his initial acquaintance with and attraction to Elizabeth, then follows him back to London after Mr. Wickham turns her against him. In Duty and Desire, Mr. Darcy attends a country-house party to find a suitable wife from his own class, but becomes the target of a cunning matchmaking scheme. In These Three Remain, Mr. Darcy finally proposes to Miss Bennett, only to be unceremoniously rejected. Rest assured, as devoted Austen fans know, Elizabeth ultimately accepts. Taking on a character as formidable as Darcy is quite a feat, but fans of Pride and Prejudice will be pleasantly surprised. This peek into the heart of a proud man falling in love is a charming read.
