Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls
# UM4562 Hardcover, 212 pages; 2016
I can't get my copy into enough girls' hands to satisfy me—so I'll get to more hands through Bas Bleu! Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is a collection of 100 pairs of stories and portraits of fabulously powerful/creative/compassionate/etc. women, like Amelia Earhart, Cleopatra, Helen Keller, Maria Callas…plus Ada Lovelace, Fadumo Dayib, and Eufrosina Cruz. Don't know the last ones? Good. This book is not just about “headline” women, such as Hillary Clinton, but about women we American readers may not know, from all over the world. The portraits are done by sixty different female artists, and are like precious gems on each woman's page! While the writing is probably about third- to fourth-grade level, it's great to read to younger girls and almost equally enjoyed by some of my adult friends. One of the best investments I ever have made!
